The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Federal Government of Somalia and Jamhuriya University of Science and Technology (JUST) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration in agricultural education, research, innovation, and modern farming practices.

This partnership represents an important step toward connecting knowledge, technology, research, and practical agricultural development to address the evolving needs of Somalia’s agricultural sector.

Under the agreement, the Ministry and Jamhuriya University will work together to:

Promote the modernization of farming practices through the use of technology, innovation, and modern agricultural techniques.

Strengthen education, practical training, and capacity-building opportunities for students, farmers, and agricultural cooperatives.

Encourage joint research and knowledge exchange to support evidence-based solutions to challenges facing Somalia’s agricultural sector.Support the development and adoption of innovative approaches that can improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability in agriculture. Contribute to broader efforts and policies aimed at strengthening the livelihoods and economic opportunities of Somali farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs.

A key component of the partnership will be collaboration between the Center for Innovation and Agropreneurship Development (CIAD) of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Jamhuriya Incubation Center (JIC) at Jamhuriya University.

Through this collaboration, CIAD and JIC will work together to foster agricultural innovation and entrepreneurship, support promising agricultural ideas, encourage the development of agribusinesses, and help aspiring agropreneurs transform innovative solutions into sustainable businesses.

The partnership will also create opportunities to connect students, researchers, farmers, entrepreneurs, and industry stakeholders, creating a stronger ecosystem for agricultural innovation and knowledge transfer.

The MoU was signed by Eng. Mohamed Hassan Abdulle, Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, and Dr. Kasim Abdi Jimale, Deputy President for Research and Development at Jamhuriya University.
