At the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation headquarters, a vibrant showcase was recently held where young people who had benefited from training in modern farming demonstrated their skills and innovations. By using technological solutions (IoT) for sustainable agriculture, these talented youth presented eight innovative agribusiness projects, each designed to address pressing challenges in Somalia’s agricultural sector.

The showcase was the culmination of six weeks of intensive training in which the students were introduced to modern farming systems and the practical use of technology to improve productivity, sustainability, and resilience. The training provided the participants with hands-on knowledge and tools that will enable them to contribute to solving food security challenges while also creating business opportunities within the agricultural sector.

This important initiative was jointly organized by the Jamhuriya Incubation Center (JIC) at Jamhuriya University of Science & Technology and the Center for Innovation and Agropreneurship Development (CIAD) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Federal Government of Somalia, along with the Department of Agribusiness and Cooperative Development. The collaboration highlights the critical role of partnerships between academia, government, and innovation hubs in building the capacity of future agricultural entrepreneurs.

The program was officially inaugurated by Dr. Mohamud Mohamed Mohamud, the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, and Dr. Kassim A. Jim’ale, the Deputy Chairman of Research and Development at Jamhuriya University of Science & Technology. Both leaders underscored the importance of empowering youth and women in agriculture, fostering innovation, and adopting technology-driven solutions to overcome climate and productivity challenges.

This showcase not only celebrated the achievements of the trainees but also marked a significant step toward advancing climate-smart farming and innovation-driven development in Somalia’s agricultural sector.
